Kelvin Nicholson set new career-highs in Virginia Wesleyan's thrilling 84-81 overtime victory over the Generals of Washington & Lee University on Sunday afternoon at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Washington and Lee got out to an early lead going up 7-2 in the first four minutes of play. VWU responded with an 8-0 run taking a 10-7 lead before WLU went on a six point run reclaiming the lead 13-10. A three pointer by
Eric Rowland knotted the score at 13 all with nine minutes to play. The squads went back and forth between over the next three minutes with the Marlins leading by one, 21-20 (6:37) following a three pointer by WLU's Jack Lewis. A pair of layups by
Kelvin Nicholson put VWU up by five, 25-20, with just under six minutes remaining until half. The Generals came within three, 27-24, but the Marlins closed out the first half of action on a 14-7 run leading 41-31 at the break.
Washington and Lee came out of the halftime break going on a 14-3 rally taking their first lead since 7:28 mark in the first half with a three pointer from Gus Wise with 14:35 on the clock. Back to back baskets by the Marlins put VWU up 48-45 (13:36) and kept them ahead for a majority of the rest of the game. Virginia Wesleyan managed to stay ahead of Washington and Lee the remaining 13 minutes, leading by as many as six points, 67-61 (5:15), but the Generals came back to tie the score at 72 all off a pair of free throws following a last second foul sending the teams into overtime.
Three points by
Tim Fisher got the Marlins the early lead, 75-72, that they held on to through the five minutes of OT. VWU maintained a two to three point lead throughout OT and were able to hold off the feisty Generals to claim the win, 84-81, in the Marlins first overtime game of the season.
MARLIN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Anthony Jackson with a career-high 22 points and
Kelvin Nicholson with 14 points, also a career-high.
Tim Fisher joined his teammates in double digits with 12 points and 14 rebounds while
Omari DeVeaux collected 10 points as the last Marlin in double figures.
GENERALS LEADERS
The Generals were led by Jack d'Entremont and Robert DiSibio who each scored 16 points. Mark Lamendola joined them in double figures with 11 points.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday, January 26th, when they hit the road traveling to Harrisonburg, VA. The Marlins will face the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University for a 7 PM tip off.
