Marlins extend win streak to six in a row with victory over Lynchburg

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - Three Marlins scored in double-figures with sophomore Eric Rowland recording a career-high 17 points in Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball's 74-61 win over the Hornets from the University of Lynchburg on Friday afternoon at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Marlins scoring a quick five points of a layup from tim Fisher and a three pointer from Eric Rowland. Lynchburg gathered themselves following a timeout and went on an 8-1 run taking an 8-6 lead as the clock ticked towards 15 minutes left in the first half. A jumper by Miles Wallace knotted the score at eight all before the Hornets pulled ahead again 12-9 with the clock sitting at 12:45 to play. Virginia Wesleyan went on a 12-0 streak taking a 21-12 lead with 9:42 remaining on the clock. Lynchburg responded with a 12-8 run pulling within five points, 29-24 (4:12), of Virginia Wesleyan, but VWU closed out the opening half on a 12-1 rally taking a 41-25 lead into the halftime break. 

The Marlins opened up a 20-point lead, 52-32, at the 16 minute mark after they started the second half on an 11-7 run. Lynchburg score 10 points to Virginia Wesleyan's five over the next five minutes putting the score at 57-42 with 11:22 remaining. The Hornets continued to chase the Marlins pulling within ten points, 67-57, with just over six minutes to play. VWU held off the Lynchburg squad in the remaining minutes to win by 13 points, 74-61, and extend their streak to six games. 

MARLIN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Tim Fisher with his tenth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Eric Rowland collected a career-high 17 points shooting 7-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the three point arch. Jordan Crump added 14 points to round out the leading Marlin scorers. 

HORNETS LEADERS
The Hornets were led by T.C. Thacker with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Israel Lockamy was the only other Hornet to join Thacker in double digits with 13 points.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Monday, January 31st, when they return to TowneBank Arena to host the Maroons of Roanoke College. Tip off time is set for 5 PM in Virginia Beach, VA.
