MATCH RECAP
The Marlins opened the first set with a 7-3 run through the opening serves. The Quakers to pull within four, 9-5, but an 11-1 VWU rally gave the home Blue and Grey a 14-point lead, 20-6 late in the set. Guilford put down a pair of points, but Virginia Wesleyan closed out the opening set with five consecutive points to win 25-8.
VWU opened the second set much like the first with an 8-3 run. The Marlins increased their led to 11 points, 17-6, following a 9-3 rally. Virginia Wesleyan scored off of eight of the final ten serves taking the second set 25-8.
After opening the third set on a 10-3 rally, the Quakers fought back to knot the score at 14 all following an 11-4 rally of their own. VWU managed to gain a three-point lead, 18-15, but allowed GC to climb back within one, 18-17, off of a pair of errors. The Marlins put together four consecutive points to pull ahead by six, 23-17, but the Quakers went on a 4-1 run to climb within two, 24-22. VWU put an end to the match as Emma Claytor put down a kill to win set three 25-22.
