Box Score STAUNTON, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team shut out the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, September 18, in Staunton, VA. Four different Marlins scored en route to the victory.

FIRST HALF
- The Marlins came out of the gate early as they found their first goal 6:43 minutes into the action as Nathan Mitchell connected off a pass from Scott Signorelli putting VWU on the board first.
- About six minutes later, the duo struck again this time with Signorelli scoring off an assisted pass from Mitchell as Virginia Wesleyan took a 2-0 advantage.
- VWU recorded it's third goal three minutes after the second as Alex Moody scored putting the Marlins up 3-0.
- Neither team scored the remaining 30 minutes as VWU took their 3-0 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
- Virginia Wesleyan came out of halftime wanting to secure their lead and did just that in the 52nd minute as Everett McCloskey put the ball in the back of the net off another Signorelli pass giving the Marlins a 4-0 lead, which they held on to for the remainder of the match shutting out the host Fighting Squirrels.
KEY STATS
- Everett McCloskey led VWU with four shots while Scott Signorelli recorded three of his own.
- Both teams were pretty even in their shot attempts with the Marlins recording 15 shots while the Fighting Squirrels took 14. VWU had nine shots on goal.
- Griffin Potter picked up the win (W: 5-1) in goal playing 71:35 minutes making four saves.
