Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team recorded its first loss of the season to the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University 2-0 on Wednesday evening, September 15, on Foster Field in the Trinder Center in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST HALF

• Despite a half full of physicality, neither team found the back of the net. 
• Salisbury controlled the ball taking 13 shots, seven on goal, while holding the Marlins to just three shots. 

SECOND HALF

• The teams continued to battle in the second half of action and the Sea Gulls found their reward with their first goal in the 54th minute of action. 
• About four minutes later in the 58th minute, Salisbury scored their second goal taking a 2-0 advantage over the Marlins. 
• Both squads battled the remainder of the game, the Marlins to find a score, and the Sea Gulls to hold off VWU. In the end, SU took the victory doling VWU its first loss of the season. 

KEY STATS

• Salisbury out shot VWU 23-12. 
• Everett McCloskey and Nathan Mitchell led the Marlins with four and three shots respectively. 
• Griffin Potter took the loss (L: 4-1-0) in goal playing all 90 minutes giving up two goals while making 12 saves, including an impressive stop on a penalty kick. Potter's 12 saves is a career-high for the senior keeper as he passed his previous high off 11 saves recorded against Guilford on Feb. 28, 2021.
