Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team defeated the Cougars of Averett University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon, September 11, on Foster Field in the Trinder Center in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST HALF

• The Marlins struck first in the 28th minute as Scott SIgnorelli connected with the back of the net off a pass from Juan Tovar.
• Ten minutes later, 38th minute, Nick Donahoe scored putting Virginia Wesleyan up two goals to none. 
• Neither team found another goal the remainder of the first half. 

SECOND HALF

• The teams took a while to settle back in after coming out of the halftime break, but the Marlins scored their third goal of the match in the 64th minute, a second from Signorelli, off a pass from Nate Mitchell, to go up 3-0.
• Averett evaded the shutout finding a single goal in the 73 minute putting the final score at 3-1.

KEY STATS

• Both teams were pretty even in their shot attempts with the Marlins recording 13 shots while the Cougars took 14. Both teams had eight shots on goal. 
• Griffin Potter picked up the win (W: 3-0) in goal playing all 90 minutes giving up just one goal while making seven saves.
