NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2021 Outdoor T&F All-Region honorees and the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan had four athletes recognized on the All-Region team. Three men,
Geni Roberts,
Landry Moffo, and
CJ Govan, and one woman,
Jaylyn Lane earned top marks throughout the season to achieve the honors.
Geni Roberts earned two All-Region honors in the men's long and triple jumps. Roberts was crowned the ODAC Champion in both events setting marks of 7.19 M in the long jump and 14.33M in the triple. His best mark of the season in the long jump and triple jump was at the Mount Olive First Chance and Multi event where he jumped 7.20M and 14.59M respectively.
Landry Moffo earned All-Region marks in the men's 110M hurdles running a 15 flat time at the 2021 ODAC Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Lynchburg to place first in the event.
CJ Govan had his best season by far for the Marlins breaking the program record in the men's shot put and discus throws. Both records fell at the Mount Olive First Chance and Multi event where Govan threw 14.04M in shot put and 45.89M in discus.
Jaylyn Lane was the lone female student-athlete to represent the Marlins but she picked up All-Region honors in both the triple jump and the 200 meter run. Lane had an outstanding outdoor season set four program records in the women's 100M Dash, 200M Dash, Long Jump and Triple Jump. Lane's new records of 12.49 seconds and 5.45M in the 100M dash and the long jump respectively just missed All-Region marks but her performances in the 200M dash (25.28) and the triple jump (11.94M) put her in the hunt to advance to nationals and compete for All-American status.
Roberts and Lane continue their season this Thursday and Saturday at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet hosted by NC A&T in Greensboro, NC. Roberts advanced in both the long and triple jumps while Lane only qualified in the triple. The long jump competition goes Thursday afternoon starting at 2 PM, while both triple jumps compete on Saturday with the men jumping at 10:30 AM and the women 2 PM.
