MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - Virginia Wesleyan's
CJ Govan and
Geni Roberts broke a combined four school records on Saturday afternoon at the University of Mount Olive track & field's First Chance & Multi event in Mount Olive, NC. Govan set higher marks in the men's discus and shot put while Roberts furthered his leaps in the men's long and triple jumps.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
Geni Roberts broke his long jump record of 7.19 by .01M with a distance of 7.20M and added .11M to the previous triple jump record of 14.48M set by Ethan Fowlkes at the Aggie Invitational in 2014. Roberts jump of 14.59M earned him first in the triple jump while his 7.20M mark in the long jump was tied for third.
Michael Gatling jumped a 13.30M mark in the triple jump to claim third in the event.
In the throws,
CJ Govan shattered his previous best in the discus adding an additional 3.09M to his personal best of 42.80M. Govan's throw of 45.89M placed him sixth behind athletes from division 1 and 2 programs. The Chesterfield, VA native also bested his mark in the shot put throwing a 14.04M distance, a throw of .65M better than his previous best of 13.39M.
Rounding out the day were the two hurdlers,
Landry Moffo and
Shirell Washington. Moffo in the men's 110M hurdle race ran a 15.02 time, just .02 off from his best time this season, to finish 11th in the prelims. Washington finished 13th in the women's 100M hurdles running a 15.72 time in the prelims, .04 off of her season best of 15.68.

The Marlins will return to UMO tomorrow, May 16, to compete in the Trojans Last Chance Meet in one last attempt to achieve better mark to try and advance to the Division III NCAA Track & Field Meet hosted by NC A&T later this month.
