Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team defeated the Quakers of Guilford College in three sets on Sunday afternoon in ODAC action at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA. Prior to the match, Head Coach Andrea Hoover-Erbig was honored in her last regular season match as the Marlins leader. She will assume the role of Executive Director of Athletics starting June 1.

MATCH RECAP
The Marlins opened set one with a 5-2 run and increased their lead to 9-4 on a Grace Sweers service ace. Guilford pulled within one point several times at 10-9, 14-13, 15-14, 16-15, before Virginia Wesleyan put three points together to take a 19-15 lead. The Quakers climbed within one, 20-19, but the Marlins again went on a three point run to lead 23-19. After giving up one more point, VWU scored the last two needed to win set one 25-20.
After sitting tied 4-4 through the first eight services, the Marlins went on a 7-3 run taking an 11-7 lead. The teams traded the next five points before the Marlins put a string of five points on the board behind service from Cara Caruso taking an 18-9 lead. VWU gave up just three more points in the set while closing out set two with seven points of their own to win 25-12.
Guilford led the early part of set three holding an 11-4 advantage over Virginia Wesleyan. VWU pulled within four, 12-8, but GC extended their lead back out to six, 15-9. The Marlins went on a 9-0 run behind another Carsuo service to take an 18-15 lead. Throughout the remiander of the set the Quakers only scored six points while the Marlins closed out the match with the seven they needed to win 25-21 and take the match in three sets.
