Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team dropped both games in the doubleheader against the Generals of Washington and Lee University on Sunday afternoon in Lexington, VA.

The Marlins opened the game strong with three runs in the top of the first as Jake Ness, Jaelen Hines, and Matt Dagostino all crossed the plate. The Generals scored a lone run in the bottom half while the Marlins put one up in the top of the second as Miles Christian came home on a Ness double to left center field to lead 4-1.
The Generals bats came to life in the bottom of the second posting eight runs to take a 9-4 lead. Two more runs crossed in the third for the Generals increasing their lead to 11-4. Virginia Wesleyan added a solo run in the top fourth with Samuel Kasprow coming home but Washington and Lee responded with one to lead 12-5. WLU posted another eight run inning in the bottom of the fifth to put their lead at 20-5.
VWU added two runs in the top of the seventh and one in the top of the eighth putting the score at 20-8 as Kasprow, Christian, and Tyriq Campbell all came home.

Game two started with both teams putting a pair of runs on the board in the first inning to sit knotted 2-2 heading into the second. VWU's runs were scored by
Dylan Gentry and
Matt Dagostino on a bases loaded
Jake Ness at-bat after he singled through the right side. The Generals added an additional pair of runs in the bottom of the second to break the tie leading 4-2.
After a scoreless third for both teams the Marlins added one run in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to knot the again at four all. The run in the fourth came off a homer by
Tyriq Campbell of the left field wall. The run in the fifth was scored by
Jaelen Hines during a double play fielders choice attempt by the Generals to get both Gentry and Dagostino out on the play.
Washington and Lee put up runs in the bottom half of the remaining innings with one run each in the fifth and sixth, two in the seventh, and five in the eighth giving them 13 total runs. Virginia Wesleyan scored four more throughout the game scoring a pair in each the top of the eighth and ninth innings but it wasn't enough to overcome the Generals lead.
Ryan Ballard doubled to right in the top of the eighth scoring
Chase James and Ness, while Dagostino and Campbell each drove in an RBI in the top of the ninth sending Hines and Dagostino home.
