VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team split their doubleheader against the Wasps of Emory & Henry College on Friday afternoon at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA.

• Game one began with the Wasps putting a single run in the lead-off inning but the Marlins responded in the bottom half driving in three runs to lead 3-1.
• Dylan Gentry scored the first run after a fielders choice play during Matt Culbert's at-bat. Jake Ness crossed second on a passed ball, and Culbert came across third off a Matt Dagostino single to right.
• The Marlins increased their lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third inning after scoring five runs. 
• Culbert crossed the plate again on another Dagostino single, while Connor Hall came home second after Ryan Ballard reached first on an error by the shortstop.
• A Miles Christian groundout scored Dagostinio, while Samuel Kasprow scored on a passed ball.
• the fifth run of the inning came on a Gentry sac fly to center field driving in Ryan Ballard putting the Marlin lead at seven runs, 8-1.
• EHC added a single run in the fourth inning putting the score at 8-2, and then closed the VWU advantage in the top of the ninth scoring six runs to knot the score at eight all.
• Miles Christian in the bottom of the ninth hit a walkoff single to left field scoring Christian Maloney who reached base on a double to left field giving the Marlins a 9-8 win. 

• Miles Christian and Matt Dagostino both drove in two RBI while Matt Culbert scored twice.
• Robert Cook threw 8.1 innings giving up four runs on six hits while striking out 13 of 34 batters faced.

• The Marlins got the scoring started with a single run in the bottom of the second inning as a Samuel Kasprow sac fly to right scored Nick Price.
• Over the next two innings, the Wasps put eight runs on the board, two in the third and six in the fourth, taking an 8-1 lead.
• VWU put another solo run on the board in the bottom of the fifth as a Tyriq Campbell groundout scored Miles Christian, putting the score at 8-2.
• Three more runs crossed home plate for Emory & Henry in the top of the eighth while Virginia Wesleyan responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning closing the Wasp lead to 11-6.
• A Nick Price single through the left side scored Chase James and a double by Matt Sinko scored Matt Dagostino and Price. The final run of the eighth for the Marlins came off a Dylan Gentry groundout that score Sinko.
• VWU added one last score din the bottom of the ninth as James crossed home plate on a Sinko fly out to left field but the Marlins ran out of time to complete the comeback and fell 11-7 in game two of the DH.

KEY STATS

• Matt Sinko drove home three RBI and scored once on two hits in four at-bats.
• Albert Clark threw 3.2 innings giving up seven runs on five hits while walking three and striking out one.
