FERRUM, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team defeated both the Hornets from the University of Lynchburg and the Panthers of Ferrum College in an ODAC doubleheader in Ferrum, VA.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: Virginia Wesleyan 3 - Lynchburg 2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-10, 25-27, 15-4)

FIRST SET

• Set one was neck and neck through the early part of the match as the score sat tied 11 all.
• VWU scored five straight to take a 16-11 lead and closed out the set on a 9-4 rally to win set one 25-15.

SECOND SET

• The Marlins began the second set taking the early 14-6 lead but the Hornets fought back to knot the score at 16 all. 
• The score sat tied 21 all before Lynchburg took a 24-21 lead following three consecutive points however VWU put two on the board to pull within one until UL put down one final kill to take set two 25-23.

THIRD SET

• VWU opened set three taking the early 7-2 lead.
• The Marlins grew their lead to seven points, 13-4, and finished out the set on a 12-6 rally taking a 2-1 lead in the match points.

• Virginia Wesleyan led 9-6 early in the fourth set but saw their lead evaporate as Lynchburg went on a 7-4 run taking a 13-12 lead.
• Lynchburg led 17-15 before VWU came back to take a 18-17 forcing a Lynchburg timeout.
• The two squads then went back forth trading the lead and knotting the score until the Hornets managed to put together three straight points to win the fourth set 27-25 and knot the match score at two sets a piece. 

• The Marlins opened the fifth set with eight consecutive points to lead 8-0. 
• Lynchburg found their first point on a kill but Virginia Wesleyan continued on to win the fifth set 15-4 and the match 3-2.

• Greta Coss led the Marlins with 21 kills while Nadia Scott was second with 15, and Abigail Mahoney tallied 11.
• Haley Sutton dug up 26 attacks and Hannah Zimmerman put up 24 assists.

• Virginia Wesleyan opened set one on a 6-2 run.
• Ferrum scored three to climb within one, 6-5, before a 7-1 rally by the Marlins put the score at 13-6.
• The Marlins only allowed the Panthers to add six more points in the set to their 12 as VWU won set one 25-12.

SECOND SET

• The two squads were neck and neck at five all through the early part of set two until VWU went on a nine point run to lead 14-5.
• The Panthers put a pair of points on the board, 15-7, but they could not hold the Marlins back as Virginia Wesleyan closed out the set on an 10-1 rally to take set two 25-8.

THIRD SET

• VWU held the early 6-3 lead but FC climbed back within two, 13-11, following a 8-7 run. 
• Virginia Wesleyan shot down Ferrum the remainder of the set closing the game out on a 12-1 run to win set three 25-12 and the match 3-0.

• Abigail Mahoney recorded the most kills for VWU in game two with 11 while Greta Coss added 10.
• Haley Sutton helped set up the offense with 19 assists with Grace Sweers behind tallying 11.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Thursday, April 1, when they travel to Lynchburg, VA to take on the Randolph College WildCats and the Emory & Henry College Wasps in a midweek ODAC doubleheader. VWU and EHC face off at 4 PM while the WildCats take on the Marlins at 6 PM.
