Box Score WINCHESTER, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team defeated the Hornets of Shenandoah University in straight sets on Tuesday evening in ODAC opener in Winchester, VA. Freshman Nadia Scott led the attack with 11 kills.

FIRST SET
- The match began trading the first four points to sit 2-2 after four services.
- The Marlins slowly climbed ahead taking a six-point lead 10-4 following an 8-2 run capped off by a double block from Nadia Scott and Abigail Mahoney.
- Shenandoah fought their way back within two-points, 12-10, of Virginia Wesleyan, but an 8-3 rally by the Marlins extended the lead back out to seven points as the Hornets trailed 20-13.
- SU came as close as five points the remainder of the set as VWU took the opening game 25-18.
SECOND SET
- Virginia Wesleyan wasted no time in the second set taking an early 11-4 lead over Shenandoah.
- The Marlins grew their lead to as many as 12 points, 18-6, and held on to win the second game 25-16.
- VWU recorded 16 kills in the second set while only committing four errors on 41 attack attempts.
THIRD SET
- The third set began with the Hornets taking the early lead, 5-2, over the Marlins after seven services.
- SU's lead didn't last long as four consecutive kills by VWU gave the visitors a 6-5 lead.
- The score tied twice at six and seven-all before Virginia Wesleyan went on a 12-1 rally taking a 19-8 lead over Shenandoah.
- VWU came within two points of match point, leading 23-11, but SU didn't bow out quietly as the Hornets came back to score five straight pulling within seven points, 23-16, before the Marlins put up the last two points to win set three 25-16 and the match in three sets.
KEY STATS
- Freshman Nadia Scott led all Marlins with 11 kills on 25 attacks with just two errors to hit 36% in the match.
- Greta Coss was close behind Scott with nine kills on 18 attacks with one error to hit 44.4%.
- Haley Sutton set up the offense with 16 assists while also digging up eight balls and serving up two aces.
- Cara Caruso led the defensive line with 11 digs and also served up two aces.
