Marlin Baseball takes one from Eastern Mennonite in doubleheader

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team split the two games in the doubleheader against the Royals of Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, March 13, at Kenneth Perry Field at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The Marlins started off game one with a run in the bottom of the first as Samuel Kaspow doubled to left center field to score Miles Christian.
  • EMU tied the score in the top of the third inning and took the lead in the fifth as the Royals score four more runs to lead 5-1. 
  • VWU's second run was scored on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch the scored Avante Banks

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Virginia Wesleyan's first run came in the second inning as a bases loaded walk that scored Jake Ness
  • Two innings later, Dylan Gentry singled to second base and scored Sam Kasprow and Ryan Ballard to put the score at 3-0.
  • Two more runs were scored in the fourth inning as both Gentry and Miles Christian scored on wild pitches from the Royals pitcher to put the Marlins ahead 5-0.
  • Tyriq Campbell tripled dow the right field line on the bottom of the fifth to clear the bases scoring Kasprow and Gentry putting VWU up 7-0 and Campbell scored shortly after on a wild pitch putting th score at 8-0.
  • The Umpires and coaches called the game after the fifth inning due to darkness giving VWU their first win of the season.
