VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – The Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams put in a solid performance at East Coast Invitational held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA. The event was highlighted by sophomore Geni Roberts breaking the VWU indoor record in the men's long jump with a 7.07M mark.

MEET INFORMATION
The meet was the second for the Marlins of the 2021 season. It was also the first at the newly completed Virginia Beach Sports Center.

INSIDE THE RESULTS
Virginia Wesleyan had 12 top-10 marks at the East Coast Invitational.

Shirell Washington finished ninth in the women's 60M hurdles behind athletes from Division I and II colleges and universities just missing the final heat. Washington finished with a time of 9.49 which is a new mark for the freshman hurdler.

Landry Moffo landed a spot in the men's 60M hurdles final heat after finishing eighth in prelims (8.83) and seventh in the finals with a time of 8.62. Moffo had another top-eight finish in the college/university 60M Dash finishing in 7.39. 

Distance runners Ethan Cravens and Jason Golub finished fifth and seventh respectively in the men's one-mile run with times of 4:54.79 and 5:00.68.

James Johnson completed the men's 3000M run in 10:39.31 claiming a tenth place finish for the Marlins.

Both 4x400M relay teams had strong finishes with the women taking third and the men fourth. The women's team of Niya Crocker, Grace Adams, Jaylyn Lane, and Casey Stedman ran a time if 4:26.56. Their male counterparts of Ki'Van Alston, Andrew Powers, Isaiah Luckey, and Tim Anderson finished their heat in 3:47.49.

Sophomore Geni Roberts broke the VWU men's indoor long jump record of 7.05M set by Ethan Fowlkes at the Dennis Craddock Invite in 2014. Roberts hit a mark of 7.07M to claim second in the event and keeps him atop the TFRRS.org performance list for Division III athletes.

Wrapping up the event was CJ Govan in the weight throw and shot put. Govan hit a 12.77M mark in the weight throw to take seventh in the event and finished fourth in the shot put with a 13.15M mark. Govan's mark in the shot put is a new personal best for the senior thrower.

The Marlins return to action next weekend when they compete on Feb. 12-13 at the Inaugural Kenneth Giles Norfolk State Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
