Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team fell to the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College 76-49 on Friday evening at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA. VWU moves to 3-4 on the season and 3-1 in ODAC competition while RMC moves to 7-0 and 4-0 in the ODAC.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Marlins finding the first basket of the game. RMC countered with a old fashioned three-point play to briefly take the lead. VWU went ahead 6-3 following four consecutive points but a layup by the Yellow Jackets put the visiting team within one, 6-5. The Marlins took a five-point lead, 10-5, and again 12-7, before RMC came back to knot the score at 15 all halfway through the first half. A three pointer by Buzz Anthony gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead since the beginning of the game and spurred an 8-0 run to put Randolph-Macon ahead 23-15. VWU closed the lead to six points twice, 23-17 and 25-19, but RMC closed out the half on an 11-5 run to lead 36-24 at the break.
The Marlins remained within nine points of the Yellow Jackets for the opening five minutes of the second half but a jumper by Anthony and a three by Ian Robertson put Macon up 49-35 with 14:25 remaining in the half. RMC opened up a 20+ point lead as the Marlins basket went cold for six minutes, 12:45-6:48, and continued to control the game until the final horn with the score sitting at 76-49.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Tim Fisher with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Eric Rowland was the next highest scorer for VWU with nine points while
Tyree Golston added eight.
Lamont Steward scored seven points and collected a team-high nine rebounds.
RANDOLPH-MACON LEADERS
The Yellow Jackets were led by Buzz Anthony with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Josh Talbert and Ian Robertson each added 13 points in the contest.
