Box Score FERRUM, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team defeated the Panthers of Ferrum College 84-83 courtesy of a buzzer beater three pointer by
Jordan White on Sunday afternoon in ODAC competition in Ferrum, VA. VWU moves to 3-3 on the season and 3-0 in ODAC competition while Ferrum moves to 6-5 and 5-4.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Panthers taking an early 7-2 lead off a couple of three pointers. A
Tyree Golston three knotted the score at nine all before Ferrum went on a 9-2 run to lead 18-11 with 11:49 to play. Back-to-back
Jordan White threes pulled VWU within a point, 18-17, but the Panthers opened up an eight-point lead 25-17 with just under seven minutes to play in the first. A 7-3 run by the Marlins, consisting of two threes cut the Panther lead to four points, 28-24, with five to play in the half. Ferrum gained a 13-point lead, 37-24, and went into the half with a 38-31 advantage over the visiting Virginia Wesleyan team.
VWU opened the second half on a 20-4 rally that saw the Marlins take a 51-42 lead as the first five minutes of the half ticked by. Ferrum reclaimed the lead 54-53 after a 12-2 spurt by the Panthers over a four minute window. By the eight minute mark, the Panthers opened a seven point lead, 63-56, but the Marlins came back to tie the score at 66 all as
Tyree Golston made a free throw with 5:34 on the clock. The teams traded baskets in the final five minutes and saw the lead change hands seven times before the final horn buzzed with the Marlins edging out the Panthers 84-83 on a buzzer beating three by
Jordan White.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Tim Fisher with 19 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Lamont Steward and
Corey Pelham each added 16 points, with
Jordan White hitting five three-pointers for 15 points including the game winning basket as time ran out.
Tyree Golston rounded out the Marlin double-digit scorers with 11 in the game.
FERRUM LEADERS
The Panthers were led by James Smith Jr. with 22 points. Kajuan Madden-McAfee scored 21 points and added eight rebounds. Nick Helton was the last Panther in double-digits with 15 on the night.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the final seconds of the game as
Jordan White hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to win the game for the visiting Marlins.
