The Marlins got on the scoreboard first scoring five points off a three by
Corey Pelham and a long jumper by
Tyree Golston but Salisbury quickly countered to tie the score at five all with a three and jumper of their own. Another three by Pelham gave VWU an 8-5 lead but SU scored five in a row taking a 10-8 lead with 15:14 to play. Four consecutive three pointers, two by
Miles Wallace and two by
Jordan Crump, gave the Marlins a 10-point lead 20-10 with 12:41 in the opening half. Salisbury broke up the Virginia Wesleyan scoring drive with a basket by
Omari DeVeaux that put the score at 23-12. The Sea Gulls pulled within nine points, 23-14 with 10:47 on the clock, the closest SU came the remainder of the game. Crump added another three pointer and Golston scored on three free throws putting VWU up by 13 points, 29-16 at the 9:17 mark. A pair of three pointers, one by
Anthony Jackson and the other from Pelham, put the Marlins ahead 37-19, an 18-point lead with just over six minutes to play in the first half. The final six minutes saw VWU score three points, off a Crump three pointer, while SU put up a pair baskets as the teams headed into the break with Virginia Wesleyan leading 40-23.
The teams traded baskets to open the second half but a three pointer by
Corey Pelham gave the Marlins a 21 point lead, 49-28. A jumper by
Tim Fisher and back to back threes by
Jordan Crump put VWU ahead by 23 pints, 57-34, with 13:52 lead in the second half. Salisbury scored eight consecutive points to cut Virginia Wesleyan's lead to 15 points, 57-42, as the clock ticked under 12 minutes to play. VWU scored five in a row reclaiming a 20-point lead, 62-42, with 9:20 remaining on the clock. The Marlins closed out the game on an 18-15 run that saw six points from
Joey Lee off a pair of three pointers in the final minute en route to Virginia Wesleyan claiming the 8-57 victory.

The Marlins were led by

Corey Pelham with 21 and 20 points respectively.
Miles Wallace joined Crump and Pelham in double digits with 11 points.
Tim Fisher led Virginia Wesleyan with 12 rebounds.
