Tim Fisher scoring a career-high 31 points, the Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team fell to the Falcons of Pfeiffer University 67-64 on Monday evening at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

The Marlins found the scoreboard first on back-to-back baskets by
Tim Fisher going up 4-0 and found themselves ahead 7-2 after Fisher hit a three with 17:36 on the clock. Over the next four minutes Pfeiffer chipped away at the Marlins lead to knot the score a seven all and took the 9-7 lead on a fastbreak jumper with 12:50 in the half. VWU responded with seven consecutive points to tie and reclaim te lead 14-9 as Fisher converted a three point play the old fashioned way with a layup and free throw combo with 10:50 remaining on the clock. The Falcons again pecked away at the Marlins lead tying the score at 14 all and took the lead on a layup with 8:32 to play. A jumper by
Tyree Golston evened up the score at 16 but a 7-3 run by Pfeiffer put the visitors ahead 23-19 with under six to go. A three pointer by
Jordan Crump brought the Marlins within a point, 23-22, but an ill timed foul by
Corey Pelham gave the Falcons three free throws, all of which were good, with just over four to go in the half with the score sitting at 26-22. In the remaining four minutes Virginia Wesleyan pulled within one, 30-29, but the Falcons scored a pair of baskets to close the half taking a 34-29 lead into the break.
VWU pulled within three points a handful of times to start the second half but soon found themselves trailing by eight points, 47-39, with 14:15 left in regulation. Pfeiffer took a brief double-digit lead, 52-42, causing Coach Macedo to call a timeout. In the four minutes that followed the VWU timeout, the Marlins went on a 12-3 rally pulling within one point, 55-54, of the Falcons with just over eight minutes to play. Anthony Jackson gave the Marlins a one point advantage, 58-57, their first lead since the first half. A pair of made free throws put the Falcons back ahead but another three-point play by Fisher on a basket and free throw gave the Marlins a 61-59 lead with 3:43 on the clock. Pfeiffer knotted the score at 61 all but a jumper by
Eric Rowland gave Virginia Wesleyan the slim lead. The falcons took the lead 64-63 following a pair of free throws but a made free throw by Fisher tied the score up at 64 all with 18 seconds to play. With the time ticking down Pfeiffer's Jerome Savoy pulled up and connected on a three pointer to give the Falcons a 67-64 lead with 10 seconds remaining. VWU's Fisher attempted a three pointer to tie the game as time ran out and unfortunately the ball bounced off the rim as the horn sounded giving the Falcons the 67-64 victory.
MARLIN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Tim Fisher with a career-high 31 points on the evening as he went 13-of-19 from behind the field. Fisher added 13 rebounds as well to lead both teams.
Eric Rowland was the only other Marlin in double-digits scoring 10 points in the contest.
FALCONS LEADERS
Pfeiffer was led by Jerome Savoy with 17 points while Donnie Haith added 12 and Sean Scott contributed 11. Dorian Miles led the Falcons with eight rebounds.
