Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team doubled down with a pair of wins in their doubleheader against Bridgewater College and Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA. The Marlins defeated both the Bridgewater Eagles and the Sea Gulls of Salisbury in four sets.

MATCH RECAP
Bridgewater scored the first three points of the match but Virginia Wesleyan came to life going on a 9-1 rally taking the 9-4 lead. The Marlins continued to roll improving their lead to nine points, 14-5. The Eagles climbed within six points, 16-10, but VWU closed out the opening set on a 9-3 run winning 25-13.
The Marlins held the lead early in the second set, 12-9, but a five point run by the Eagles gave Bridgewater the 14-12. VWU pulled ahead by one, 16-15, but BC went on a six-one run taking a 21-17 lead. Virginia Wesleyan climbed back within a point, 23-22, but Bridgewater scored two of the last three points to win set two 25-23.
The teams were neck and neck with the score knotted at six points each. VWU pulled ahead 10-8 but BC tied things up at 10 all. The Marlins again pulled ahead 14-11, but the Eagles again drew the score at 14 all. The teams went back and forth until Bridgewater took a 20-18 lead. The Marlins rallied back to score six consecutive points to win the set 25-20.
Virginia Wesleyan opened the fourth set with a 10 point run before Bridgewater found their first point. The Marlins maintained their 10 point lead and increased it to as many as 12 points, 22-10, and closed out the set with a 25-15 win.

Salisbury opened the match with an early 9-3 lead. The Marlins pulled within five trailing 15-10 after a 7-6 run. SU led 20-14, but VWU rallied scoring eight points to SU's four to trail 24-22, but the Sea Gulls got the final point winning set one 25-22.
VWU took an early 10-4 lead to start the second set. The Sea Gulls came within five points, 15-10, but the Marlins pulled ahead again leading 23-12 following an 8-2 run. Salisbury scored three more points but it wasn't enough to catch Virginia Wesleyan who won set two 25-15.
SU came out in set three leading 8-3 early on. The Marlins rallied back to take a 14-11 lead after an 11-6 run. The Sea Gulls knotted the score at 18 all and again at 21 all before the Marlins closed out the set on a 4-2 run winning set three 25-23.
Salisbury again led early in set four holding an 8-4 advantage. The Marlins fought back on a 10-6 rally to knot the score at 14 all. Virginia Wesleyan held strong and closed out the set on an 11-4 run winning set four 25-18 and the match in four sets.
