Men's Soccer rebounds with a double overtime 2-1 win over Bridgewater College

Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team rebounded with a double overtime 2-1 win over the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon, October 23, in Bridgewater, VA. Both Marlin goals were scored by different athletes, each of whom recorded their first collegiate goal.

FIRST HALF
  • The teams took 25 minutes or so to get settled in and feel each other out before a team found the back of the net. The Eagles scored first in the 27 minute to take the 1-0 lead. 
  • Virginia Wesleyan responded four minutes later with a goal by Shoh Janobilov to knot the score at one goal a piece. 
  • The teams entered halftime tied at one all.
SECOND HALF
  • Neither team found the go ahead in the second half despite both squad getting seven shots off each.
OVERTIME
  • The Marlins controlled possession of the ball getting three shots off but both teams went scoreless through the first overtime period forcing a second. 
  • Three minutes into the second overtime period, Virginia Wesleyan's Aria Kimiavi connected with the back of the net, his first collegiate goal, to give the Marlins the 2-1 golden goal victory.

  • Aria Kimiavi scored the golden goal, the first of his collegiate career, to give the Marlins the 2-1 victory.
  • Shoh Janobilov also recorded his first collegiate goal tying the match in the first half. 
  • Griffin Potter played all 103 minutes in the net taking picking up the win (W: 10-2-4, 4-1-3) giving up just one goal while making eight saves.
