Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team split its doubleheader in a tri-match against Hollins University and Washington & Lee University on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, VA. The Marlins swept Hollins in three sets whilst falling in three to the Generals of Washington & Lee.

VWU took an early 8-3 lead in set one but HU came back to pull within one point 8-7 after scoring four in a row. A 6-2 run by the Marlins gave them a five-point lead, 14-9, but Hollins came back to within three trailing 17-14.Virginia Wesleyan got to work and closed out the opening set on an 8-1 run winning 25-15.
The Marlins opened set two on a 7-1 run and soon found themselves leading by 10 sitting at 14-4. Hollins closed the gap to seven points, 14-7, but VWU took off from there closing out the set on an 11-2 rally winning 25-9.
VWU only held a slim 7-5 lead through the early serves of the third set, but the Marlins kicked it into gear going on an 8-1 rally to lead 15-6. HU cut VWU's lead to seven points ,18-11, after putting together four points, but the Marlins finished out the match on a 7-3 run winning 25-14 and taking the match in three sets.

The Marlins held the early lead, 8-5, but the Generals went on an 8-4 run taking a 13-9 lead. The teams traded points over the next 10 services as VWU trailed 18-14, but a 6-2 run for the Marlins knotted the score at 20 all. WLU closed out the set scoring five points to VWU's three as Washington and Lee took the opening frame 25-23.
VWU opened set two on a 7-2 run but WLU came back to knot the score at seven all. The teams remained knotted through the next several services sitting at 11 all, but three VWU points put the Marlins up 14-11. Washington & Lee climbed back within one, 16-15, before Virginia Wesleyan score four to take a 20-15 lead. WLU click things into gear and closed out the set on a 10-3 run winning set two 25-23.
The team remained neck and neck in the earlier part of set three with the Generals holding a slight 6-5 advantage. WLU went into overdrive going on two four-point runs taking an eight-point lead, 17-9. VWU climbed back within four, 17-13, but could not catch the Generals who won set three 25-17.
