Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team tied the program record for consecutive shut outs at eight, ninth of the season, with a double overtime draw against the Maroons of Roanoke College 0-0 on Saturday afternoon, October 16, at Foster Field in Virginia Beach, VA. Prior to the match the Class of 2022 was honored for senior day.

FIRST HALF

• The teams battled throughout the first half with neither squad finding the back of the net as the teams entered halftime knotted at 0-0. Roanoke tallied nine shots while Virginia Wesleyan managed to get off four. 

SECOND HALF

• The teams fought throughout the second half with no reward despite the Maroons taking 10 shots and the Marlins got off six forcing overtime. 

OVERTIME

• Roanoke took four shots through the two overtime periods while Virginia Wesleyan only got off two as the match resulted in a 0-0 draw.

KEY STATS

• The match was the first time since the 2018 season that the two squads have faced each other. 
• The Marlins tied the program record for consecutive shut outs at eight and currently have nine on the season. 
• Griffin Potter played all 110 minutes in the net picking up the win (T: 9-1-4, 3-0-3) as well as 10 saves against the Maroons.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday, October 20, as they hit the road to head up to Ashland, VA to face the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College. The squads will kick off at 4 PM in the midweek ODAC match-up.
