Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team fell in game two of the series to the Generals of Washington and Lee University 5-2 at Kenneth Perry Field at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA. The Marlins move to 3-7, 0-2 on the season while Generals are now 8-1, 2-0 overall.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with a scoreless first inning for both teams as they adjusted to the weather conditions and their opponents. The Generals found the first run of the game in the top of the second on a double down the left-field line that scored the baserunner from second putting the score at 1-0 in W&L's favor.
Virginia Wesleyan countered in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own that came off of a Zack Burkhart at-bat that scored Jacob Pilarski from third knotting the game at one-all.
Both teams went scoreless in the third and fourth before Washington & Lee found their second run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single up the middle that scored the runner from second. After two more scoreless innings, the Generals scored their third run in the top of the eighth on a sac-fly to rightfield giving W&L the 3-1.
VWU pulled within one following a solo-run homer that sailed over the centerfield wall off the bat of Austin Obenour in the bottom half of the eighth.
The Generals put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth after adding two more runs to the scoreboard to win by three runs, 5-2.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by shortstop Austin Obenour with one run on two hits with a single RBI in four at-bats. Andrew Lowe (L: 1-2) got the loss after throwing 5.1 innings giving up two runs on six hits while striking out three and walking one.
WASHINGTON and LEE LEADERS
The Generals were led by Brian Wickman with one run on two hits with on RBI in four at-bats. Carson McKoon (W: 2-0) threw six innings giving up one run on three hits and walked three batters while striking out nine. Tom Kellogg earned the save after pitching three innings during which he gave up on run on one hit and struck out six batters.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the top of the ninth when the Generals put two runs on the board putting the game out of reach for the Marlins.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday, March 4, when they host the Monarchs of Methodist University in a midweek nonconference contest at Kenneth Perry Field. First pitch is set for 3 PM in TowneBank Park.
