Marlins Steam Past Cavaliers in Albright Tournament

READING, Pennsylvania - The Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins men's basketball team defeated the Cavaliers of Cabrini College 104-64 in the opening game of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament hosted by Albright College on Sunday afternoon. The Marlins improve to 9-1 overall while the Cavaliers fall to 3-7 on the year. VWU is back at it tomorrow to wrap up the Holiday Tournament.

GAME INFORMATION
The contest against Cabrini kicked off the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament hosted by the Lions of Albright College. The victory is the sixth consecutive win for the Marlins who will face FDU-Florham tomorrow afternoon to determine the winner of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins opened the game on a 9-0 run over the Cavaliers in the opening four minutes. Cabrini pulled within two points, 9-7 following their own run of 7-0. An 11-2 rally by VWU gave the Marlins a 20-9 lead with 11:05 remaining in the opening half. Over the next five minutes, the Cavaliers took a 23-22 lead after a 14-2 sprint. The teams went back and forth over the next four minutes trading the lead nine times before the Marlins took a three-point lead, 38-35, following a three from Miles Wallace. Virginia Wesleyan held on to the lead heading into halftime up 40-37.

Coming back from the break the Marlins took control of the game getting out to a 19-point lead by the 14-minute mark of the second half. A jump shot by Tim Fisher at 8:26 on the clock put VWU up by 30 points, 79-49. Through the remaining minutes of the contest, the Marlins scored 25 points to take the win by forty points, 104-64.

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
VWU was led by Percy Burt and Corey Pelham with 15 points each. Tim Fisher, Jordan White, and Tyree Golston joined their teammates with 14 points apiece and Daniel Spencer tallied 12 for six Marlins in double figures. Burt had a team-high 12 rebounds in the game while Pelham led with six assists. 

CABRINI LEADERS
The Cavaliers had twp athletes score in double-digits in Keith Blassingale with 17 points and Voshon Mack who scored 16. Mack led the boards with 12 rebounds for Cabrini.

KEY MOMENT
The key moments of the game came in the 18:53 to 17:03 window of the second half when the Marlins scored 12 points on four consecutive three-pointers opening an 11-point lead, 52-41, which gave VWU a large enough lead to seal the game.

Virginia Wesleyan wraps up the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament tomorrow afternoon at 4 PM against FDU-Florham.
