GAME 1: VWU - 7 ROANOKE - 2
A big opening inning got the Marlins in prime position for the rest of the game. Brandon Kussmaul led off with a walk and was brought to second to batters later as Randy Neisz singled. Zack Clark followed that with a single that allowed Kussmaul to reach home. Deon Hammand kept the bats rolling with a another single that scored Neisz. With two runners on, Brady fallon sent one over the fence to give the visiting squad a 5-0 lead.
Roanoke would sprinkle in a run in both the fourth and the fifth, but the Marlins tacked on two in the sixth to solidify the lead. With runners on the corners, Neisz doubled to clear the bags and put VWU up 7-2.
Jacob Pilarski went 8.0 innings, gathering up another win and pushing his record on the year to 7-0. Glen Pizzanello came in to start the ninth to finish the game, fanning two and not allowing a hit.
GAME 2: VWU - 4 ROANOKE - 3
Once again, the Marlins were the first to get on the board as the squad plated two in the top of the third. Kussmaul led off with a walk and was able to get all the way to third on an error by the pitcher. He would then take home on a Corey King single in the next at bat. Randy Neisz would push King to third as he clubbed his second double of the day. Clark would then send King home as he sent a sacrifice fly to right field. In the following inning, Kussmaul would produce a sacrifice fly to bring in another run and increase the lead to 3-0.
Roanoke battled back, tying it up with a three-run seventh inning. The Marlins had an answer though as another Kussmaul sac fly would plate the eventual game-winning run.
Chance Pauley dealt the first 6.2 innings, striking out five in the process. Nick Bay would come in to get the final out of the seventh and would also get the win (2-2). Andrew Lowe would toss a hitless eighth inning and Pizzanello picked up his third save of the year as he threw a hitless ninth.
Baseball's schedule doesn't ease up as the team returns to the diamond with a tilt against Nationally ranked Randolph-Macon on the road. The contest will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
