Baseball drowns the Wasps on the road

Virginia Wesleyan University swept Emory and Henry College 11-18 (4-13) on the road to improve to 24-10 on the season and 14-3 in ODAC play. 

 

Game 1

Jacob Pilarski led the Marlins on the mound with a complete game shut out while the offense mustered together 8 runs to get take the first game of the twin bill.

Pilarski improved his record to 9-0 and his ERA is now 1.45, which both lead the ODAC. Pilarski only allowed four hits, while striking out nine and only surrendering one walk. The effort was Pilarski's second complete game shutout of his sophomore campaign. 

The Marlins took advantage of Wasp miscues in the third inning to score three runs. The inning was highlighted by a Deon Hammond single that scored Zack Clark.

Hammond then doubled in the 5th inning that scored Randy Neisz. Brady Fallon also collected an RBI with a single that allowed Hammond to cross the plate. 

Virginia Wesleyan also stole six bases during the contest. 

 

Game 2

Zack Clark paced the Marlins offense in Game Two with five RBI, highlighted by a two run home run in the 5th inning and two doubles on the day. 

Clark (5), Corey King, Jacob Pilarski (2), Brady Fallon, Dylan Gentry (2), and Jonathan Rivera (2) all had RBI for the Marlins. Rivera's coming the way of a monstrous two run home run in the second inning. 

The Marlins and Wasps were tied 6-6 going into the 6th inning, until the Marlins exploded for eight runs and put the game out of reach. Pilarski and Clark both had two RBI doubles in the inning, while Gentry picked up both of his RBI with a single. 

Andrew Lowe earned his first win of the season after coming in relief for starter Chance Pauley threw the first two innings. Lowe went three innings, allowing four hits, one run and striking out two. Jay Crusemire and Glen Pizzanello both tossed two innings of scoreless relief to preserve the win for VWU. 

The Marlins enter the final week of ODAC play currently 2nd in the conference. The squad returns to action on April 24 for an ODAC match up on the road against Hampden-Sydney College. First pitch is scheduled for 4p.m.
