Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team fell to nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon Thursday afternoon at Kenneth R. Perry Field. With the loss, the Marlins move to 19-9 on the season and 11-2 in conference action. RMC improves to 22-3-1 on the year (12-1 ODAC).
The Yellow Jackets got off to a quick start piling in six runs in the opening frame. They would nearly double their lead with a five-run third and that set the pace for the rest of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Marlins would finally break onto the scoreboard. Zack Clark and Deon Hammond led off the side with back-to-back walks and were then moved to second and third on a pass ball from the catcher. Nick Ficarella would eventually pick up the RBI as a sacrifice fly to center allowed Clark to reach home.
Jay Crusemire opened up the contest on the bump for the Marlins and was tagged with the loss. A slew of Marlins from the bull pen would help finish out the game.
Baseball will return to play at 12 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Lynchburg for doubleheader. This will also mark the squad's senior day and pregame ceremonies will take place to honor the nine seniors on the team.
