Baseball Gets Clipped in Non-Conference Matchup

Box Score

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team fell, 8-2, to Marymount University at home Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Marlins move to 5-6 on the season while the Saints improve to 4-5.

The home side got on the board first, plating one in the bottom of the opening frame. Corey King got things started with a one-out single up the middle. After he advanced a base on a wild pitch, he was then pushed to third on a flyout to center field. The senior was then able to reach home after an error by the Saints shortstop allowed Zack Clark to get to first.

Marymount would go on to sprinkle runs here and there, amassing six runs in the top of the sixth to take a sizeable lead. The Marlins would tack on just one more in the final inning on a Deon Hammond single that scored Brandon Kussmaul from third.

Chance Pauley was credited with the loss on the day, pitching the first 3.0 innings. Doug Avery took over in the fourth, dealing out four strikeouts over 2.0 innings. Andrew Lowe would then come in for an innings and Adam Brooks threw a one-hitter over the final three frames.

Baseball will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a doubleheader.
