VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team turned its offense on full blast as the squad defeated Tufts University, 25-13, Sunday afternoon at Kenneth R. Perry Field. With the win, the Marlins improve to 13-7 on the year while the Jumbos slide to 5-4.

After Tufts put one run on the board in the top of the second, the Marlins bats came alive, exploding for 25 runs, the most in over ten years at VWU. The home side kept increasing its run total, plating four in the second, five in the fourth, six in the fifth and seven in the sixth. The squad then closed the game out with three more in the eighth.

The Marlins clubbed a program-high 27 hits, eclipsing the 21 hit mark they hit earlier this season. At the conclusion of the game, 12 different batters registered a hit and 11 hits went for extra bags, including 10 doubles and one home run.

Corey King led the way as he went 4-for-6 on the day. Brandon Kussmaul, Jacob Pilarski, Zack Clark, Austin Obenour and Brady Fallon all came away with three. Nabbing two hits on the day were Randy Neisz, Nick Ficarella and Deon Hammond and Dylan Gentry, Isaac Guzman and Alex Vawter and Jordan Sprouse all came away with one.

Even more impressive were the 22 RBI, seven of which came from Pilarski. Also coming away with multiple were Fallon (3), Neisz (3), Kussmaul (2), Guzman (2),  and Obenour (2).

Earning the win on the mound was Nick Bay, who tossed 5.1 innings. A slew of Marlin bullpen pitchers would then combine to finish up the contest.
