Box Score Marlins Fall 16-9 on Senior Day
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team dropped its Senior Day 16-9 to Randolph College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. Seniors Andre Brummitt, Justin FitzGerald, Cory Hilliard, Evan Merrill, Brandon Hayslett, and Eddie Desiderio were recognized in a pregame ceremony.
Defense forced multiple turnovers early before Randolph broke through with the game's first score on an unassisted shot by Ryan Campbell at 12:07.
The Marlins responded with a pair of goals in the middle of the quarter, both off the stick of Nick Zepko from a Matt Baldwin assist.
The lead continued to change throughout the first half with the squads heading into intermission with a six-all tie. Zepko scored three of the VWC first-half goals while Desiderio added two.
Randolph ran off a huge scoring run to start the second half, scoring 10 of the first 11 goals, spanning a time of 29 minutes that covering nearly the duration of the second half.
Eight different WildCats scored during the run to put the game away. Matt Lindenbaum did a good job of turning away the Marlins in the second half, making 16 saves in total.
Randolph (5-10/1-6) held a 17-of-29 advantage in face-off victories while Prince Charles won 10 of his 13 attempts.
Nick Zepko led the Marlins with three goals while Joe Couture and Desiderio had two goals each.
Virginia Wesleyan (2-12/0-7) will host Hampden-Sydney College (11-5/5-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
