Box Score Men's Lax Falls 19-2 in ODAC Opener
SALEM, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team was outscored 16-0 through three quarters, falling 19-2 to Roanoke College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams.
IV Stucker had three goals and Jason Sarro posted three assists in the first half to help the Maroons take a 8-0 lead into intermission. Roanoke doubled its lead in the third, scoring eight times to go up 16-0.
Virginia Wesleyan got on the board just 32 seconds into the fourth quarter when Andre Brummitt found Joe Couture, allowing the Marlins to capitalize on a man-up opportunity. The Marlins scored another one at 8:41 when Matt Baldwin assisted on a Justin FitzGerald score, his first score of the season.
Chris McTague (1-5) made 12 saves for the Marlins while Philip Venanzi and Cory Austin had two saves each.
Ian Davies made six saves in the first half to earn the win for Roanoke (4-1/1-0).
Roanoke held a 46-27 edge in ground balls, and held to the Marlins to just 10-for-25 in clears.
Virginia Wesleyan (1-5/0-1) hosts Washington and Lee University (3-4/1-0) Friday at 7 p.m. in another ODAC contest.
