Box Score Marlins Battle Captains, Storm Wednesday Evening
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team battled Christopher Newport University, and an impending storm, Wednesday night, falling 20-3 in non-conference action.
The Captains jumped out to a large 11-0 lead heading into halftime. Will Geise had three goals and two assists in the half while Matthew Crist added two goals and two assists to go with two goals from Randy Foster.
Geise scored his fourth goal of the contest just 36 seconds into third quarter before the Marlins got on the board with a pair of goals from Nick Zepko and Matt Baldwin to cut the deficit to 12-2.
CNU responded with eight straight goals to go up 20-2 before Zepko added another score with 3:46 left in the game.
Christopher Newport (2-2) led 44-18 in ground balls and won 19-of-26 face-off opportunities.
Chris McTague made a career-best 15 saves for the Marlins.
Virginia Wesleyan (1-2) travels to Methodist University (3-1) Saturday for a 3 p.m. start.
