Box Score Bridgewater Ends Marlins Season in ODAC Baseball Tourney
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The No. 6-seeded Bridgewater College baseball team rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the ninth inning to defeat No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan 8-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament Friday.
The Marlins got off to a fast start as Deon Hammond singled with one out in the first before swiping second and third to score on a Taylor Erby double. Erby scored on Randy Neisz's single for a 2-0 edge.
Bridgewater rallied for two unearned runs in the third to tie the contest, but lone RBIs from Justin Erby and Hammond put the Marlins back up 4-2.
The Marlins made it 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Brandon Kussmaul laced a ball in the hole at shortstop that was snared by the Bridgewater defender, but no play could be made as Justin Erby crossed.
After being held to five hits through the first eight inning, the Eagle bats came alive in the ninth inning rally. Seven Eagles collected hits in the frame as six runs crossed to plate to extend the Eagles season.
Taylor Erby led the Marlins with a 3-for-4 day while Justin Erby posted two hits and scored a pair of runs.
Joe Bobiak drew the start for the Marlins, allowing just two unearned runs in six innings while striking out four.
Virginia Wesleyan ends its season with an 18-15 record and 12-8 mark in conference play.
