Box Score Men's Lax Continues Win Streak against Adrian as Currier Sets Personal Best
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals Saturday afternoon, pulling away for a 21-10 victory over Adrian College in non-conference action.
Justin Metzger started the scoring Saturday afternoon off an assist from Matt Baldwin just over four minutes into the contest. Virginia Wesleyan took advantage of an Adrian penalty to score a second goal when Josh Currier posted a man-up score.
Currier tallied two more scores in the first quarter as Brad Lill and John Roth contributed lone scores for a 6-0 lead after one period.
Currier added three more goals in the second quarter, giving him six scores in the first half to go with an assist. He tacked on one more score in the second half, tying a career-high with seven goals.
The Marlins scored 11 goals in the second half, coming from nine different players as Virginia Wesleyan used a balanced scoring approach to maintain a double-digit lead over Adrian.
Jake Waldrup led Adrian (0-2) with four goals while Doug Boyd tallied three assists to go with a goal of his own. Brett Farrelly made 18 saves in net.
Joe Couture and Duncan Haight were the only other Marlins with multiple goals, scoring two each, while Couture also added an assist. Tyler Conn led the Marlins with three assists as Metzger and John Bennett had two each. Sean Galloway made nine stops in goal in just over a half of action.
The Marlins won 19 of the game's 33 face-offs and converted on 28 clears while scooping 52 ground balls.
Virginia Wesleyan (4-0) hosts New England College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
