Currier sets All-Time Goal Mark at VWC in Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Senior Josh Currier scored six goals Saturday night afternoon to set the all-time school record as the Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team defeated Greensboro College 18-8.

The Marlins scored the first four goals of the game and never lost the lead in the contest. Currier scored the second goal of the game in just under five minutes of play, tying the mark of 131 held by Pete Derby '98 and Nick Pappas '14. John Roth scored the next three goals for the Marlins before Currier set the mark for good. The Marlins led 5-1 with under three to play in the first quarter when Ben Fletcher found Currier for the record-breaker.

Greensboro fought back to cut the score to 8-5 with 10:31 to go in the second quarter on a goal by Daniel Wolf. The momentum ended there as the Marlins scored the next five goals to go up 13-5 midway through the third quarter.

Denis Radcliffe and Jervon Speller had two goals each for Greensboro (1-3) while Detione Jones made 18 saves.

Currier finished with six goals and two assists as Roth tallied four goals and three assists.

Virginia Wesleyan (2-0) hosts Methodist University Wednesday at 5 p.m.
