Volleyball Caps off Impressive ODAC Weekend

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team won its second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match in as many days Saturday, dismantling Bridgewater College by a score of 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.

The Marlins have won five straight matches and are over .500 for the first time since the first week of the season. With the three-set victory, Virginia Wesleyan has captured the last 13 sets, dating back to October 6, a five-set win over Averett University.

Bridgewater only held the lead twice in the first two sets, 3-2 in the first and 1-0 in the second, before the Marlins charged ahead.

The Eagles led 6-3 in the third set before the Marlins rallied to tie it on a pair of BC errors and a Doneisha Hall kill.

Bridgewater scored the next four points to go up 10-6, but the Marlins went on a 14-3 run to go up 20-13. Allison Mackley served five straight service points for the Marlins to held Virginia Wesleyan take control of set three.

Abby Mills had nine kills for Bridgewater (17-6/6-3) while Jenna Hamra tallied 19 assists in two sets of action.

Tiffany Barrett had 14 kills on a .448 hitting percentage for the Marlins as Emilee Pierson posted 16 assists and Meghan Wood, 15.

Virginia Wesleyan (13-12/4-4) hosts Southern Virginia University Tuesday night at 6 p.m. It will be Senior Night for the Marlins as Barrett, Maddy McMurry, and Katie Brooks are acknowledged in a pre-game ceremony.
