Marlins Cruise to Sweep of EMU

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team needed just over an hour to sweep Eastern Mennonite University 25-13, 25-20, 25-16, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Friday.

The Marlins jumped out to a big lead in the first set by putting away nearly every attack attempt, hitting an impressive .476 in the set with 10 kills.

The second set went in similar fashion as the Marlins jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Eastern Mennonite tried to rally, cutting the lead to 19-16, but a kill each from Kristina Scott and Emilee Pierson put the Marlins back up five.

Virginia Wesleyan charged out early in the third set as well, going up 5-0 behind a pair of Maddie Starr service aces and a kill by Tiffany Barrett. EMU got no closer than four the rest of the way.

Jasmine Johnson led all players with 21 assists for Eastern Mennonite (9-14/2-6).

Barrett had nine kills while Amber Matalus posted seven, hitting .417, while Dare Wright contributed six kills while hitting .625. Pierson finished with 18 assists as Doneisha Hall had four blocks.
