Box Score Service Aces, Key Hits Spur Marlins to 3-0 Victory
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team rode nine service aces and 46 kills to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-14 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College Tuesday night in non-conference action.
The Marlins led in the first game 16-7 when a kill by Allison Mackley put VWC ahead by double-figures. Mackley then went back to serve and collected service aces on three of the next four services as the Marlins pulled out to a 21-7 advantage.
The Battling Bishops kept the second game a little tighter, tying the contest at 17-all before back-to-back kills by Kristina Scott and Rosalind Ludovici put Virginia Wesleyan ahead for good 19-17.
Virginia Wesleyan led throughout game three thanks in large part to a .400 hitting percentage in the third, making 17 kills against just three errors.
Tiffany Barrett led the Marlins with 13 kills to go along with 11 digs while Mackley finished with 10 kills and three service aces. Kirstin Sessoms had 19 assists as Emilee Pierson added 18 to go along with three aces. Marin Crowder led in digs with 17.
Emily McLain had seven kills for N.C. Wesleyan (2-4) while Ayla Brewer added 12 assists and Christina Huber contributed 13 digs.
Virginia Wesleyan (7-4) travels to Bridgewater College for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opening match on Friday at 7 p.m.
