Two Minute Span Spells Doom for Marlins

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team traveled to St. Mary's (Md.) College Sunday afternoon, falling to the Seahawks 2-0 in non-conference action Sunday.

The Marlin defense kept St. Mary's at bay in the first half, holding the hosts to one shot in the first 45 minutes. The second half was a different story as a two minute spurt put St. Mary's ahead for good.

Nick Tait found Alessandro Burlew at the 54:08 mark before a penalty kick set up another chance just 63 seconds later. Tait found the back of the net on the free attempt to add the insurance tally.

Zack Haussler made four saves for St. Mary's (2-3). Connor Kirkham made one stop for the Marlins.

Virginia Wesleyan (3-2) is off until Saturday when Emory & Henry College comes to town for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener at 1 p.m.
