Barrett Sets Career High as Marlins Prevail on Senior Night

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Junior Tiffany Barrett posted a career-high 22 kills as the Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team won 25-13, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up with Randolph College Tuesday night.

Seniors Marin Crowder, Kirstin Sessoms, Rosalind Ludovici, and student assistant Kelsey Caviston were recognized in pregame festivities.

The Marlins looked very solid in the first set as a six-point run put VWC up 8-5 after trailing early 5-2. Randolph kept the set within reach as the Marlins had a narrow, 9-7 lead but Virginia Wesleyan posted five-straight points as Barrett contributed three kills.

Randolph held early leads in the second and fourth sets as well before the Marlins could rally back.

The WildCats led 12-10 in the fourth set but three errors, two Barrett service aces, and kills from Kristina Scott and Doneisha Hall flipped the two-point deficit to a six-point lead (18-12) as VWC regained all momentum.

Autumn Troxell had 11 kills for Randolph (4-19/0-7 ODAC) as Brooks Gillerlain had 13 assists and Elisabeth Price added 13 digs.

Dare Wright posted 10 kills for Virginia Wesleyan to join Barrett in double-figures. Sessoms and Emilee Pierson had 25 assists each while Crowder finished with 21 digs as Barrett added 20.

Virginia Wesleyan (18-6/6-0) will carry a nine-match winning streak in Wednesday night's important ODAC contest with Washington and Lee University (11-9/6-0). The battle of ODAC unbeatens is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
