Box Score DOVER, Del. -- Four days after recording a season-high three assists in a victory over Eastern Mennonite University, senior Isaac Arrington put himself in the scoring column again.
This time instead of helping teammates to record goals, he was on the recievng side of help from his friends. Arrington (DeSoto, Texas/Midlothian, Texas) knocked in his first two goals of the season in a span of five minutes to help Virginia Wesleyan College's men's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 non-conference victory at Wesley College.
Virginia Wesleyan (3-2-1) fell behind when Wesley (4-2) ended a hard-fought scoreless game in the 75th minute on a goal by Emman Amao (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby). Bryant Rashford (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) came through with a cross from the left to Amao, who knocked the shot into the right corner.
It was a temporary lead however, as Arrington tied the game on a shot into the right corner on a free kick. Junior Josh Kemp (Frisco, Texas/Addison Trinity Christian Academy) assisted on the score that made it 1-1 in the 84th. His shot came a little more than a minute after a shot by rookie Devin Dyer (Farmville/Crosby) was blocked.
After a shot by Wesley sailed wide several minutes later, Virginia Wesleyan picked up a corner kick that produced the winning goal. Junior Alex Castelli (Purcellville/Loudoun Valley) delivered the kick to Arrington who fired it into the next to give VWC a 2-1 lead with just 1:58 remaining in the contest.
Wesley finished with a 17-13 edge in shots, but Virginia Wesleyan owned the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5.
Junior Connor Kirkham (Centreville/Chantilly Westfield) recorded three saves in goal for VWC and Ryan Sanders (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) finished with three for Wesley.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Saturday, Sept. 20, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition at Washington and Lee University beginning at 2:30 p.m.
