Lott named South Region Track Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS -- Randy Lott has been selected as the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor South Region Track Athlete of the Year.

The Virginia Wesleyan College senior from Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) was selected as the most outstanding runner by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA).  It is the second Athlete of the Year honor for Lott, who received the same recognition last year in outdoor competition.

Lott will receive his award this weekend at the Division III indoor track and field championships in Lincoln, Nebraska at the University of Nebraska's Devaney Sports Center. Nebraska Wesleyan University is the host institution.

Lott won Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships earlier this month in the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes.  He won the 60 title for the second consecutive year and took the 200 for the first time in program and ODAC meet record time. Lott posted a time of 6.87 in the 60 and a time of 22.17 in the 200, and qualified for both events at the NCAA meet.

He ranked first in the region in the 60, and 10th in the nation, and first in the region in the 200, and 13th in the nation. Lott will compete today in the 60 prelims at approximately 3:30 p.m. and in the 200 at 4:50 p.m. Finals for both events will take place on Saturday, March 15, at 3:15 p.m. and 4:05 p.m., respectively.
