Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Wesleyan College placed first in the final standings of the Marlin Invitational on Saturday.
The Marlins, Randolph College's WildCats and Meredith College's Avenging Angels all finished with 3-1 records, but VWC placed first based on set victories and win/loss percentage. The Marlins won 11 of 17 sets for a .647 percentage. Randolph won 10 of 16 for .625 percent and Meredith won 9 of 16 for .563 percent.
Virginia Wesleyan opened Saturday with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 win over Meredith, but fell in the final match to the University of Mary Washington, 21-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 15-5.
Mary Washington finished 2-2 in the tournament, followed by Rowan University at 1-3 and Rhode Island's Johnson & Wales University at 0-4.
