Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH -- Senior Day proved to be rewarding for the Virginia Wesleyan College men's baseball team as the Marlins swept the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference double header at Marlins Field.
VWC won the opener 5-2, and posted a 9-3 victory in the nightcap.
Eastern Mennonite jumped out to an 1-0 lead in the opener in the top of the fourth inning when Beau Banglesdorf (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) came around to score off of a ground out double play by Justin Rodriguez (Miramar, Fl./Pace).
The Marlins would answer in the bottom of the same inning, however. Back-to-back singles from Josh Miller (Norfolk, Va./Greenbrier Christian) and Anthony Siracusa (Auburn, Ny./Auburn) put the Marlins in scoring position and Alex Lambert (Virginia Beach/Ocean Lakes) was walked to load the bases. A RBI and sacrifice fly ball from Brett Sutryk (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) and a single from Daniel Cox (Brooklyn, N,Y/Midwood) allowed the Marlins to take a 2-1 lead, a lead they would never give up the rest of the game.
In the nightcap, the Marlins tool a 1-0 lead in the first when Matt Ittner (Virginia Beach,/Frank W. Cox) came around and scored off a single by Lambert. Eastern Mennonite answered in the second inning as the Royals took a 3-1 lead.
The eight inning ended up to be the turning point as the Marlins unleashed an offensive explosion with a five run inning highlighted by a double from Siracusa that brought in three RBIs brining the Marlins lead.
The Marlins are scheduled to play their last regular season game on Sunday, April 22, hosting the Hornets of Shenandoah University. First pitch is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
