Season ends for Marlins with tourney loss at H-SC

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's lacrosse Marlins could not spark a consistent offense early enough at Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday, as the host Tigers rode an early lead to a 17-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament victory. (Box score)

H-SC scored the first five goals of the game, before Virginia Wesleyan got on the scoreboard on a shot by Kevin Topper (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter.  The host Tigers (12-4) came back with four straight goals however, to open up a 9-1 lead.

Virginia Wesleyan (8-8) put together a 3-1 scoring run to pull within a 10-4 score with 14:16 remaining in the third quarter, but could not get any closer the rest of the way.  Kyle Wright (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads), Damian Becker (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and Curran Lee (Calgary, Alberta/Delta West) scored in the brief Marlin run.

Senior goalie Tyler Keech (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) produced six saves for the Marlins, and led the team with six ground balls.
