SALEM, Va. -- A dominating start by No. 9 ranked Roanoke College was too much for the Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team to overcome on Saturday as the host Maroons posted a 24-9 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory.
Roanoke (7-3, 3-0) scored the first five goals of the game and went on to post an 11-4 first-quarter lead and a 20-7 advantage by halftime.
Senior goalie Tyler Keech (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) faced 59 shots, but came up big with his best effort of the season. He recorded a season-high 20 saves, marking the fourth game of his career with 20+ saves.
Junior Adam Nycz (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) and rookie Andrew Adamson (Marriottsville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) led VWC (5-5, 2-2) offensively with a pair of goals each. Seven Marlins scored at least one goal each.
Richard Lachlan (Port Coquitlam, B.C./Terry Fox) led the Maroons with seven goals. Jeff Keating (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added five goals.
Virginia Wesleyan picked up 45 ground balls, led by Keech with six and Nycz with five.
Roanoke used four goalies who produced 16 saves.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Wednesday, Apr. 6, hosting Christopher Newport University's Captains (5-4) at 7 p.m. at the Trinder Center.
