VIRGINIA BEACH -- Adam Nycz and Travis Puls combined for 10 goals Saturday to lead Virginia Wesleyan College's lacrosse Marlins to an impressive 17-8 non-conference victory over Greensboro College's Pride.
After VWC (1-2) built a 7-1 halftime lead, Nycz (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) and Puls (Ellicott City, Md./Baltimore Mt. St. Joseph)dominated scoring in the third quarter to launch the Marlins into a 14-4 advantage. Nycz and Puls scored all seven of the Marlins' goals in the quarter, with Nycz firing in four.
Greensboro came back to outscore Virginia Wesleyan 4-3 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late for the Pride (1-2). VWC snapped a two-game losing skid in the series with Greensboro and defeated the Pride for the fourth time in the past six meetings.
