The Virginia Wesleyan Women's Track and Field team delivered a standout performance at the Colonial Relays, highlighted by a school record, multiple top-10 all-time marks, and numerous personal bests.
Freshman Ester Zar headlined the weekend by breaking the program record in the 5000-meter run, finishing 17th overall with a time of 17:54.34. Junior Abby Peck also turned in a strong performance in the event, placing 32nd in a personal-best time of 18:53.85, which ranks fourth all-time in program history.
Senior Ella Clingenpeel added her name to the record book in the 1500-meter run, placing 12th with a personal-best time of 4:59.09, moving her to fourth all-time in program history. She also competed in the 800-meter run, finishing 20th in 2:22.01.
In the field events, junior Katelyn Griffin delivered a top-10 finish in the long jump, placing ninth with a mark of 5.31 meters, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. Freshman Alani Hampton recorded personal-best marks in both the long jump and triple jump, finishing 16th in the long jump at 5.09 meters and 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.21 meters, which ranks eighth all-time in program history. Griffin also competed in the triple jump, placing 15th with a mark of 9.77 meters.
On the track, senior Anisah Kersey recorded personal-best times in both sprint events, finishing 34th in the 100-meter dash in 13.05 seconds and 36th in the 200-meter dash in 27.32 seconds. Senior Lyric Hoggard led the Marlins in the sprints, placing 15th in the 100 meters in 12.56 seconds and 24th in the 200 meters in 26.20 seconds.
In the throws, sophomore Bailey Schottin recorded a personal-best mark in the discus, placing 15th with a throw of 26.22 meters, and also finished 16th in the shot put with a mark of 9.98 meters. Freshman Desi Hill added a 16th-place finish in the discus with a mark of 22.39 meters and placed 18th in the hammer throw with a distance of 22.58 meters.
