The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins men's lacrosse team fell to 9-4 on the season following a 22-9 loss to No. 3 University of Lynchburg (9-1, 4-0 ODAC) on Wednesday afternoon, April 1, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Marlins move to 3-3 in ODAC play after facing one of the conference's top teams.
Virginia Wesleyan was led offensively by
Keagan Hall, who recorded three goals and an assist.
Ethan Smith added two goals, while
Thomas Lewis IV contributed two goals and multiple assists.
Zachary Dupill also tallied two goals in the effort as the Marlins found more success on the offensive end in the second half.
Lynchburg came out strong, jumping to an early lead in the first quarter with a flurry of goals to take control. Despite a man-up goal from Lewis IV, the Marlins trailed 7-1 at the end of the opening period.
The Hornets continued to build momentum in the second quarter, adding nine more goals. Hall found the back of the net for Virginia Wesleyan during the stretch, but Lynchburg carried a 16-2 lead into halftime.
Virginia Wesleyan showed improvement in the third quarter, adding a goal from Hall, but Lynchburg maintained control and extended its lead to 19-3 heading into the final period.
The Marlins put together a strong fourth quarter, scoring six goals. Smith and Dupill each added to their totals, while Lewis IV capped off his day with a late goal as Virginia Wesleyan closed out the game with its most productive offensive stretch.
The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins men's lacrosse team will return to action on Saturday, April 4, hosting Roanoke College in an ODAC matchup at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
